Smoking Cessation Treatment

Your Healthvio medical provider may propose coping strategies, Nicotine Replacement Therapy, and/or prescription medications. We can prescribe the following medications:

Treatment list of smoking cessation

  • Zyban (bupropion)

An antidepressant that helps reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings.

  • Chantix (varenicline)

Works by blocking the effect of nicotine in the brain.

  • Note: Prescription medications can increase the likelihood of quitting for good but are not guaranteed to work. Medications prescribed are generally safe but can cause serious side effects. Before taking any medication, always read the package insert that comes with your medication for warnings and a full list of side effects.
    How It Works
    1. Answer some questions.

Help your provider get up to speed on how to best help you by answering some questions pertaining to your medical history and symptoms.

    2. Select a consultation type & a provider.

Select if you would like a live consultation or a questionnaire based consultation. Then, choose a provider that is licensed in your state of residence that you feel will best meet your needs.

    3. Receive your prescription.

If appropriate, the provider will send your prescription electronically to the pharmacy of your choice.

Smoking has been my guilty pleasure forever. But when my dentist told me to quit or lose my teeth, I had to take action. The Healthvio app was the support I needed. I liked how easy it was to book and meet my doctor. He was thorough and talked me through everything. The pharmacist also helped me understand any side effects of Zyban. I’m on the fifth week of not smoking and will book again when these meds are done!

I quit smoking thanks to the helpful medical staff at Healthvio. My first prescription wasn’t working, so I rebooked with my doctor. She found another option that helped me a lot. I’ve been smoke-free for 2 months and have never felt better!

Quitting smoking wasn’t easy. But the team at Healthvio was incredible. My doctor outlined my options, and we discussed the best treatment for me. He wrote me a prescription for Zyban. It reduced my cravings for nicotine, so I could finally stop for good.

    Smoking Cessation Treatment Questions

  • What are the common nicotine withdrawal symptoms?

Withdrawal symptoms can vary from person to person, but the most common are:

    • Cravings
    • Headaches
    • Irritability
    • Coughing
    • Sore throat
    • Increased appetite
    • Weight gain
    • Restlessness
    • Constipation
    • Insomnia
    • Sleepiness

These symptoms usually peak within the first three days after quitting smoking and will subside within 2 to 4 weeks. Keep in mind that these symptoms are a sign that your body is healing from the damage that tobacco has caused.

  • What are Nicotine Replacement Therapies (NRT)?

NRT involves using products like gum, patches, or lozenges to help reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings. These are available over-the-counter and maybe recommended to be used in conjunction with bupropion (Zyban).

  • Will my lungs heal after I quit smoking?

Yes, but it depends on how long you’ve been smoking. Your lungs will need longer to heal, the longer you smoke.

  • What is included in the consultation fee?

It includes a medical provider licensed in your state evaluating your Smoking Cessation questionnaire and creating your personalized treatment plan, and writing prescriptions. The consultation fee does not include medication(s).

If medication is prescribed, your Healthvio provider will send the prescription(s) to a pharmacy of your choice. You will pay the pharmacy for the medication(s) and the price will depend on the pharmacy and whether you pay with insurance or out-of-pocket.
